Thriving Involves Mind, Body & Soul

To thrive is defined as doing well, healthy and strong, or to prosper, flourish. What domains does thriving apply to? Is it just mentally? What about physically and spiritually?

The mission of Thrivology is Helping People Thrive. How do we do that? Mind, Body & Soul.

The Mental Health Continuum Model uses a scale from crisis to struggling to surviving then thriving.

This scale can be used for all domains of health, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Thriving

Your Mind thrives when your thoughts, feelings and actions allow you to enjoy life, you have a positive attitude, and the ability to face unexpected challenges with confidence while not being afraid of failure.

These things show up in your personal life, in your relationships, and in trusting yourself to handle whatever may come your way. Upset and stress are going to happen. The question is how will distressing or disturbing things be tolerated or handled? That is what determines your quality of life when those events occur.

Your Body thrives when it is nourished, exercised, and cared for based on how it was built. Meaning, it was made to work a certain way. Altering the machine, your body, in any way, will cause it to not work the way it was made to.

That is why we talk about diet, sleep, and exercise so much. They affect body chemistry and hormones, which affect mood and cognition. When your body chemistry and hormones are functioning properly, they allow for much more enjoyment of life.

Your Soul thrives when it is aligned with your purpose and creator. As Christian’s we believe that is with God. This allows you to be aware of spiritual experiences, and the prompting of the Holy Spirit to do things in service to God and others.

Unfortunately, most people don’t consider their spirituality until challenges or hardship arrives. Your spiritual practices should also continue when things are going well, not just when things are going bad.

It has always been the goal of Thrivology to include all three of these domains in our care for our clients. Why? Because thriving doesn’t happen when just one of these domains is doing well.

Adding Services to Promote Thriving

Thrivology began with Mind because that is what we knew as counselors. We have attended to the thoughts, emotions, behaviors, communication and relationships of our clients, and we will continue to do so. Now, we are growing our team and our capacity to serve more people.

As we move into the Body domain, we are looking for ways to help people through stretching and exercise, nutrition, and caring for your body in a variety of ways. We have recently hired our first Health Coach who will begin hosting free monthly informational webinars. If you would like to sign up, click here.

The third domain is Soul. Your spiritual life is an integral part of thriving. Therefore, we weave this element into our work with the mind and body. But there will be more in this domain in the years to come.

Related: Diet. Sleep. Exercise.

There is a lot to consider with all three domains. If you would like help learning to thrive, give us a call.
